Remove the background.
Keep the photo to yourself.

Cutaway erases image backgrounds entirely in your browser — free and unlimited. Full resolution, batch & ZIP, no watermark, no account. Your photos never touch a server.

No photo handy?

First use sets up the private AI engine once. It usually takes 30–90 seconds on Wi-Fi, then your browser caches it for future visits. Your photos never leave this device.

Don't take our word for it: this counter hooks every network API on the page. Once the engine has loaded, switch on airplane mode — Cutaway keeps cutting. Your photos never leave this tab.

Why it's different

Most tools upload your photo.
This one can't.

There is no server-side processing to send your image to. The neural network runs inside this tab, on your hardware.

Private by design

Images are processed in your browser's memory and nowhere else. Close the tab and nothing remains.

No sign-up

Drop a photo, download the result. No account, no email, no watermark on anything you export.

Works offline

After the first private AI setup is cached, your connection can drop entirely and Cutaway keeps cutting.

No queue, no quota

Your own device does the work, so there's no per-image limit, no credits, and no waiting behind other users.

How it works

Three steps. Zero uploads.

Drop your image

PNG, JPG, WEBP or HEIC — drag it in, click to browse, or paste straight from your clipboard. Add a whole batch at once.

The AI cuts it out

A neural network running locally on your device lifts the subject off the background in a few seconds — hair, edges and all.

Style and download

Keep it transparent, drop in a solid color or your own backdrop, or blur the original scene. Export as PNG or JPG.

FAQ

Fair questions, straight answers.

Is Cutaway really private?

Yes — and you can verify it. The neural network runs inside this browser tab, on your own hardware; there is no upload step and no server-side processing. The live Privacy monitor under the tool hooks every network API on the page and counts outgoing bytes: it stays at zero for image data.

Is it free for commercial use?

Yes. Every export — any resolution, any quantity, with no watermark — is yours to use personally or commercially. No account, no license fee, no fine print on the free plan.

Is there a limit on images or resolution?

No. Batch processing, ZIP download and full original-resolution export are all free and unlimited. Cloud tools meter these because every image costs them GPU time; here, your own device does the work.

Why does first use need setup?

That's the private AI engine being prepared inside your browser. It usually takes 30–90 seconds on Wi-Fi the first time, then your browser caches it. Future visits skip the setup unless you clear site data, change browsers, or switch devices.

Which formats are supported?

PNG, JPG, WEBP and HEIC/HEIF (the iPhone default). HEIC files are converted locally in your browser before processing — they're never uploaded either.

What if the AI misses an edge?

Cutaway cleans color fringe automatically and lets you feather edges with a slider. For anything bigger, open Refine edges under Touch up: paint to erase leftover background or bring back parts the AI removed, with adjustable brush size, zoom and undo. Everything applies at full resolution.

Can it make Amazon or Instagram-ready images?

Yes — pick a canvas preset (Amazon 2000×2000 white, square 1:1, portrait 4:5, story 9:16), and the subject auto-centers inside your chosen margin. Drag the preview to fine-tune, add a drop or ground shadow, then export. All free.

How is this free? What's the catch?

There is no catch during launch. Your own device runs the AI, so Cutaway does not pay for a GPU every time you remove a background. We're keeping the tool completely free while we learn which workflows people actually use.
